Abstract Contemporary Mixed Media Art Painting “ABOVE-BELOW“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

Another little galactic gem. This acrylic on panel has loads of texture including crackles and it has a high gloss glass-like resin finish which accentuates the texture.

Plaster and Wax Art Workshop with Sandra Duran Wilson

 March 19-20, 2017

 Santa Fe, New Mexico

Having experiences is what travel is all about. Add some exciting and unique adventures to
your life with an art holiday during Spring Break in Santa Fe. I love to combine the earth elements of Venetian plaster and beeswax. These two play well together and result in some of the most luminous textures; with a depth and glow that just can't be achieved any other way.

I did write a book on Acrylic painting for Encaustic Effects, and it was inspired by using
plaster and wax together. Join me and find out what all the fun is about. Sign up soon because this class fills up fast. All supplies are provided! If you are interested in both the 3 day and this 2 day, there is a special price for both. Just ask!

Abstract Contemporary Mixed Media Art Painting “FLOATING FEATHER“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

This beauty is also part of the online class on Venetian plaster available through Cloth Paper Scissors. It has Venetian plaster on burlap and it is then mounted onto panel. The layers of acrylic accentuate the depth of the cracks and the feather floating above it. It is framed in a black wood floater frame, ready to hang.

Abstract Contemporary Mixed Media Art Painting “COUNTING“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

Counting is another painting using Venetian plaster, acrylic mediums and collage on panel. I created a colorful background, buried it under Venetian plaster and then unearthed it. This painting has a beautiful burnished sheen that looks like wax, but it’s not.
It is framed in a black wood floater frame, ready to hang.

Abstract Contemporary Art Painting “SOUND SCAPE III“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

Soundscape III is an example of what numbers and frequencies look like to me. There is beautiful texture and vibrant color in this acrylic on panel painting. The painting has a high gloss glass-like resin finish that enhances both the color and the texture.

Abstract Contemporary Art Painting “SOUND SCAPE II“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

Soundscape II is influenced by the rustling of the leaves outside my studio, the songbirds and the waterfall of the fountain. There is actually an image of bark which I transferred into the acrylic mixed media painting on panel. This piece also has the high gloss resin finish.

Abstract Contemporary Art Painting “SOUND SCAPE I“ by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

This is the first of a series of paintings based on music and sounds.
I have synesthesia, which is a crossing of the senses, so sounds get associated with colors and numbers have frequencies, which in turn become colors. This first painting even has some music incorporated into the acrylic on panel. It is framed in a black wood floater frame and it has a high gloss, glass-like resin finish which accentuates the colors and texture.
