Italian Landscape, Tuscany, Contemporary Painting, Mixed Media, Art For Sale “Italian Fields” by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

FRESH OFF THE EASEL

Acrylic and Mixed Media on panel Framed in a black wood floater frame.

I have painted in Italy several times but I had to use my imagination and a photo to see the poppies in full bloom. I have rich red poppies in my garden, but to see the hillsides covered in them is ecstasy.

Mixed Media Contemporary Abstract Painting,“Lighter Than Air” by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

Fractals and repetition play a role in this painting. Learning to see the tiny details in the cosmos and the bigger picture in the minutiae. In this painting you break free of physical constraints and float above the Earth, looking down at the multi-patterned ground below.

There are two pieces brought together. The top is an etching made from two different images and the lower portion is a collograph with rich texture. Climbing higher and higher, one transcends time and moves into warp speed of space, leaving the Earth below.

Mixed Media Contemporary Abstract Painting on Paper “Trust the Journey” by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

This painting was constructed from many components. As I built the layers of fabric, etchings, collographs, painted papers and book pages; I learned to trust the journey and kept layering until I felt I had reached my destination. I listened to the muse and followed its voice.

Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Painting “Tuscan Hills” by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

This acrylic painting on panel is reminiscent of the medieval villages that cling to the side of the hills in Tuscany. I painted this before I went to Italy, but now that I have been I can see that it really is like this. The colors and the textures remind me of Tuscany.

Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting on Paper “Winter Moon” by Santa Fe Contemporary Artist Sandra Duran Wilson

This painting was created from a chapter in  my new book.
The chapter is called Shadow Play, and I explore how gradations of light and dark creates depth both in our paintings and in our lives. Interference paint plays off the dualities of light and dark to yield a beautiful night sky that glows with color.
